Willa catheter autobiography in five shorts

Two bachelor neighbors discuss the habit of single men like themselves to commit suicide before one of them—Cavenaugh—begins to tell the other—Eastman—about a man who has been stalking him. The next very next day Cavenaugh appears to have become one of those suicidal bachelors instead. The title character is a demon in a dress stalking the offices of a weekly magazine.

Three later stories were published together in Obscure Destinies ; Cather wrote three more short stories after this, but they were not published until after her death, in The Old Beauty and Others New York: Knopf, The other stories she wrote from were not collected untilin Uncle Valentine and Other Stories.
